Sorry for the long break since the last post. Adjusting to the new schedule with work has been a challenge. We have had an exciting month. Fisher pulled through the swine flu with no problems and actually had a pretty mild case so we were very lucky for that. He loves daycare and I think they love him too. He enjoys watching all of the older kids and playing with his little girlfriend Avery. They have nicknamed him bookworm because he likes to hold books and stare at them like he's reading. He and Avery are about the same age so they put them together a lot and the teacher told me Friday that they were both sitting in their bumbos and Avery was trying to hold Fisher's hand....too cute!

Fisher is much more verbal these days and has picked up quite a squeal from the other kids. It's really cute! He is putting everything in his mouth and kicking and grabbing his feet a lot. He continues to bring us so much joy and we are more and more in love with him every day! Here is a link to a few pics from the past month including his Halloween photos! Enjoy!

3 Months

Wow, I can't believe my little boy is already 3 months old! He is getting so big! Month three was the most exciting month for us by far. Fisher has made so much progress and is more like a little person now and his personality is starting to show. He is happiest in the mornings (he definitely does not get that from his parents!) and at bath time and he is "talking" up a storm. When we talk to him, he tries to immitate sounds and this week he started gurling and blowing bubbles which is super cute! This month he also started lifting his head during tummy time and his strength is really building. He pushes with his feet when you stand him up and grabs at objects and puts things in his mouth (his favorite being trying to eat his whole fist!). We think he's almost ready for the jumper but he's not quite steady in it yet. We're hoping that will coax his first laugh out of him because as happy as he is, we haven't had a real giggle yet.

Last week was my first week back at work and Fisher's first in daycare. It was definitely harder on me that on him. According to his teachers, he was a star student! He took his bottles well, played, and napped. It is so hard to leave him every morning but at least I know he is in a good place and I don't have to worry about him. There are 8 kids in his class but only one other 3 month old so he gets a lot of attention and the teachers all seem to love him! I think this is because he flirts with them, they all tell me how he smiles for them - I guess they don't realize he does this for just about anyone these days :) He is quite the little ladies man! Now that I am back at work the postings may be a little fewer but I will try to keep the blog updated as much as possible so you can all see his progress! Below is a little time lapse for you...

Month 3 Progress

Fisher continues to be more alert and loves talking to himself and everyone around him. This past week we had a tummy time breakthrough...he finally held his neck up and now he loves tummy time! He is also grabbing at things more.

First Swim

Fisher went for his first swim this weekend in Houston in the McMurrey's hot tub and just as we suspected, he loved it! On Sunday he fell asleep on the way over and did not wake up even when we put him in the water. He actually slept in the pool, it was hilarious! When we took off his swimsuit to put on his diaper he finally woke up and was in a good mood so we put him back in in his birthday suit! So at 9 weeks he has already gone skinny dipping...we're in BIG trouble with this little rebel! For all the pictures, click here.

We had a great weekend with Aunt Pam, Uncle Taylor, and Cousin Nolan! Nolan is talking and repeating everything now (scary!) and is just too cute. Fisher has been out and about to several places now! He's been to Taco Deli twice, Z Tejas, to visit Kerrie and his new buddy Hudson, and to meet the STS gang. Mommy did manage to capture a few pictures although she needs to get better at remembering to take pictures when we're out!

Fisher is becoming much more alert. This is him playing with the puppy his cousin Nolan gave him this morning. He stared at it and grabbed at it for about 15 minutes.

1 Month Check-up

Fisher had his one month check-up today. I think it's safe to say that he is over his eating disorder as he has gained almost 2 pounds in 2 weeks. He is now 9lbs 7.5oz and 21 3/4 inches long. That is the 45% and 55% percentiles respectively so he is a normal baby. We were so happy to see that weight gain after the issues he had a few weeks ago. He also got his Hep B vaccine and as predicted he screamed and cried when he got that shot, he even had a few tears. This is a photo of him about 2 minutes later and as you can see he still looks a bit wounded and his eyes are still a bit teary. Poor thing!

I can't believe Fisher is already one month old. It's been an exciting ride so far. We've had lots of visitors and helpers, thanks to all of you for your support! Fisher is doing great, he is eating much better and although he still has reflux he seems to be better than he was. He spits up a lot but is crying less so I think the medicine is helping.

We took him on his first big outing Saturday to Taco Deli and Babies R Us during the day and then we went to Lisa and Eric's house Saturday night for a while for Lisa's birthday party. Fisher was great so we hope to be getting out with him more. I've also been trying to go walking in the neighborhood each morning to get him out of the house more and he seems to like that.

No big milestones just yet but he does seem to have really great head and neck control already. He can turn his head side to side when on his tummy and when we hold him up on our shoulder he can hold his head up for a bit. I think it's only a matter of time before he has full control. When you talk to him and make noises he looks like he is trying to smile but he can't quite do it yet, his lips curl up a bit like he wants to though and it's cute! I think we'll see a lot more progress in month 2. His checkup is on Friday so keep your fingers crossed that he has gained enough weight. I will post an update after our visit. In the meantime, here are a few one month pics!

An Exciting First Day Home

Fisher had his first doctor's appointment on Wednesday morning. While we were there, he began to spit up a bit. It quickly progressed to where it was coming out of his mouth and nose and was all over the table. We were so lucky we were there at he doctor's office because it really scared Nathan and I. The doctor said there was a fine line between spit-up and vomit but that this seemed like a vomit much more than a spit-up to him so he immediately called to get us in for an x-ray of his upper gi to check for stomach problems. Everything seemed to be functioning normally but they did see that he has reflux. Apparently this is very common and 2 out of 3 babies have it for the first 6months or so.
When we got back to the doctor, he talked to us about our options to give him some relief and we decided to get him some medicine and the doctor loaned us this wedge so that he can sleep upright to help him from refluxing. He had a great night last night and seems well today. We hope this means his medicine is kicking in and that keeping his head elevated during and after feedings is alleviating much of his pain.

We went back to Dr. Caldwell Thursday morning and he had gained weight from the previous day and seemed well. I think that visit was more for the doctor to check on us than on him. He said Nathan and I were both white as a sheet when Fisher was throwing up the day before and he wanted to be sure that we were feeling better about things going into the long weekend. I have to say I am very happy with our choice of pediatrician, he has been wonderful and has spent a lot of time with us answering questions, providing advice, and just reassurance.

Home Sweet Home

We brought Fisher home on Tuesday, June 30 at around 4. Of course it finally decided to rain that day so our roofers (who were originally supposed to come the previous week) were not able to finish that day. Fisher was a trooper though and slept right through all the noise. It was nice to be able to bring him home in the breezy 85 degree weather as opposed to 100+.
Once we got settled in, we had a great first meal as a family (thanks Farrah, it was delicious!) and Mommy even had a little glass of champagne to celebrate. All in all, it was a good first night!

Sunday morning at 2:45am I woke up thinking I needed to use the restroom but very quickly realized something else was up....my water had broken! We got to the hospital by 3:30 and they confirmed that we would not be leaving without a baby! Fisher finally made his entrance at 2:30pm. The early part of labor was pretty quick and we thought we lucked out but in the end I had to push for 3 hours to get him out. Must have been the record high temps in Austin, I wouldn't have wanted to come out either. Needless to say, everyone was quite surprised after all that to hear he was only 7lbs 12oz and 19 inches. We all thought there was a monster baby in there!

We plan to go home tomorrow, we are all doing great and as you can see from our pics he is already a popular guy. He has had visits from both sets of grandparents, all his aunts and uncles (Aunt Pam, Uncle Taylor, Uncle Ryan, Uncle Tanner, and Aunt Lanie), his cousin Nolan, Tracie (honorary aunt), Ian, and Gabriella (future playmate/girlfriend??). The Unveiling!

Many of you have been asking and waiting...we are FINALLY ready to post pictures of the room! I would not say it is 100% done since we don't yet have the glider and there is still some empty wall space, but it's good enough for now.

Fisher's bedding is the Pottery Barn Transportation theme. It has cars, ships, balloons, blimps, and other transportation vessels in bright red, blue, and green. The wall color is "Bippity Boppity Blue" and we accented that with red throughout the room. We are really excited about how it turned out. Now all we need is the baby! For more photos, click here.

Austin Shower

Last weekend we had our final shower in Austin. This one was hosted by the lovely ladies shown to the right: Lanie (my sister), Leslie (cousin-in-law), Ingrid (my brother's girlfriend), and Tracie (one of my BFF's). They did an AWESOME job! We had about 25 fabulous women there and Leslie served up mimosas for everyone (even the pregnant ladies had virgin ones) and had some great snacks. Of course we wrapped it up with a delicious chocolate cake which Tracie scoured Austin to find. This pregnant lady had no problem eating a huge piece!

It was so great to get to visit with all of my awesome girlfriends! Fisher will have no shortage of women in his life, that is for sure! Of course the ladies are already looking out for him and he got some great stuff including his swing, baby sling, mobile, toys, and lots of other goodies. And just like his father, he already has a very stylish wardrobe including some great little overalls with a guitar on them from Tara.

Even though technically Fisher was the "guest of honor", one little lady stole the show. This is Gabriella (with her mom Erica), future heartbreaker, and she is adorable! I hope Fisher is just as cute and happy as she is! I can't wait for them to play together. I really feel so lucky to have all of these great women for friends! Shower: Part Deux

This past weekend we went to Orange where my Aunt Barbara, Aunt Patti, and Nene (Dr. Medrano) hosted a baby shower for us. My cousins Harrabeth with her daughter Julianne and Heather with daughter Lexie and mother Melba (pictured) made the trip in to town and we all went to lunch prior to the shower. It is always so nice to see them, we do not get together often enough. It was also great to see some other faces like my friends KK, Melanie with her son Colton, and my cousin-in-law Nancy with her daughter Valerie and several of my aunts on my mom's side.

Fisher truly is lucky and he got some great stuff. He is all set for bathtime thanks to Pam Boehme and her daughters who got him a tub, toys, and all kinds of bath accessories. He also got a lot of great outfits! His grandparents got him his high-chair and the hostesses got him a great swing and diaper bag. I had a great time visiting with everyone and am truly greatful to my aunts for hosting! For more shower pictures, click here.

Shower Time!

We recently made the trip to Houston for our first baby shower. It was so much more special because Aunt Jean, Parker (JR), Kristen, and Kendal all made it in from the Fort Worth area. Jean is Nathan's aunt and JR is her son (Nathan's cousin). Of course we also got to see Gail, Richard, Pam, Taylor, and our nephew Nolan who grows cuter by the day!

The shower was great! It was hosted by several of Gail's friends at the home of Cindy & Mike Giles. They had great snacks and some very cute and delicious cupcakes made by the daughter of one of Gail's friends. Fisher got lots of cute clothes including 2 life jackets and 2 bathing suits. He is definitely ready for the lake! Some other items we received were his car seat (for trips to Grammy & Grampy's house), stroller, bouncy seat, Bumbo, diaper bag, and several blankets, bibs, onesies, etc. One awesome gift was a canvas with Fisher's name on it. Sarah Fitzgerald, who grew up with Nathan, made it and painted the same little cars, trucks, and balloons on the canvas that are on Fisher's bedding. We can't wait to hang it up in his room. Sarah's mom, Susan, also made a cool gift of blankets with matching burp cloths which she stitched Fisher's name on. Thank you so much to Sharon, Cindy, Linda, and Chrys for putting on the shower, it was a great day!

Saturday night, since Nathan, Taylor, and JR all have birthdays in May we had a great birthday dinner courtesy of "Grammy & Grampy". That Sunday was Mother's Day so we enjoyed breakfast while all the mom's got to open their gifts. Nathan got me some daisy's for my "1/2 Mother's Day" as he referred to it. Like many expecting parents, we have made the transition to a larger vehicle in preparation for Fisher's arrival. Of course Nathan wanted to be sure Fisher and I were in one of the most safe and reliable vehicles on the road. The fact that the car looks awesome and drives great are just added benefits. No really...it was all about the safety for our little guy. That's our story and we're sticking to it!

My Little Bodyguard

If you look up lap dog in the dictionary, you'll find a picture of Lacey right there. But those of you that have met Lucky know that he's a bit more of a loner. He does have his affectionate moments but he also has many times when he chooses to lay in his bed or on the other end of the sofa while Lacey is always under foot. Since I've been pregnant though, we have noticed a change in our little Luckdog. He has become much more affectionate towards me and follows me around more than usual. Several times he has laid in my lap and rested his head right on my belly as if he knows that his little brother is in there. At night he sleeps near my belly or when he gets hot comes up and lays his head on the pillow right next to mine.

One morning Nathan got up before me (shocking I know!) and took the dogs out and shut the door to let me sleep. He took this picture of Lucky outside of our bedroom door, he said he sat just like this for 30 minutes until I came out. What a sweet little protector he is!

Whew! What a week!

Sorry I've not posted much this past week, week 23 was one of the busiest we've had! We started off last weekend in Houston for Anna and Laura McMurrey's double bridal shower. As an added bonus, we got to visit with Aunt Jean and the Chittys who were also in town. Anyone who's met AJ knows that it's always a party when she's around so we had a great time! Nolan was sick so we did not get a chance to see him or Taylor but I did get to visit with my #1 Sister-in-law at the shower.

Once back in Austin, we went to dinner to meet up with Randi, Melanie, and their families who were in town for a visit. During the week we had dinner plans with the wine club gang Monday, Randi, Jeffrey, and Sanders on Tuesday and Relay for Life meeting Thursday. By the time Friday came around I was worn out! Fisher is really starting to make his presence known. I feel him daily although it's not a very regular schedule. On Monday he really kicked the crap out of me in the middle of a meeting and kept at it for a good minute or so, I guess he doesn't like me working so hard :) Enjoy your belly update, it's growing by the minute!

A few years ago, we went to Dave & Buster's and they had a machine that would show you what your kids would look like. We must have been destined to have a boy even then because this is what popped out. Other than the large forehead (which Nathan attributes to his large brain), he's a nice looking little dude.
